Oakwood University had no answers for hot-shooting Cumberland University Tuesday night as the Phoenix downed the Ambassadors 78-46 at Ashby Auditorium.
Cumberland shot a sizzling 55 percent from the field and had three players in double figures and two more finished with nine points each enroute to the easy victory.
While Cumberland was on fire, Oakwood was ice cold.
The Ambassadors shot 31.6 percent (18-of-55) from the field, including just 27.8 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range. The 46 points were a season low.
Brian Williams (Colquitt, GA) led Oakwood with 12 points. Nobody else had more than eight.
Oakwood fell to 2-16 with the loss. It was the Ambassadors' ninth straight loss.
Cumberland improved to 12-11 and avenged a 74-73 loss to Oakwood back on Nov. 28 in Lebanon, Tenn.
Jordan Stephens led the Phoenix with a game-high 21 points. Isaac Stephens and Tyler Byrd finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Oakwood is back in action Friday at the GCAC Round Up at Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss.
The Ambassadors take on Philander Smith College on Friday, Rust College on Saturday and Southern University New Orleans on Sunday.
