OAKWOOD HOSTS PHILANDER SMITH TONIGHT IN GCAC CONTEST

 
Oakwood University will host Gulf Coast Athletic Conference favorite Philander Smith tonight at 7 inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors enter the game 0-10 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Panthers are 4-5 and 1-1.

Oakwood will have to contend with Raymond Reece, the GCAC preseason Player of the Year.

Reece, a 6-foot-5 sophomore forward from Oakland, Ca., is averaging 17.9 points and 10. 3 rebounds per game, while shooting 70 percent from the field.

"He can do it all," Oakwood coach Simon Jacob said. "We've got to find a way to slow him down if we want to have a chance to win."

The Ambassadors has struggled offensively and defensively during their 10-game losing streak, but Jacob hopes they can get it turned around against the Panthers.

"We've had some stretches where we've played well," he said. "We've just got to do it for 40 minutes. Hopefully, we can do that tonight."

Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) leads Oakwood in scoring (10.1), rebounding (6.9) and blocks (27).

After tonight's game, Oakwood hosts Wiley College Saturday night.
