OAKWOOD LOOKING TO FIND ITS WAY AGAINST TOUGALOO IN GCAC OPENER

JACKSON, Miss. – Despite his team's 0-7 record, Oakwood University men's basketball coach Simon Jacob believes the Ambassadors are on the verge of finding their way.

Oakwood played well in the first half against Miles College last Saturday night, trailing by only six at intermission, and played well in the second half Tuesday at Cumberland University, battling back from an 18-point deficit to take the lead with just under four minutes left, before falling 79-76.

"We've had some moments where we've played well," Jacob said. "We've just got to put two good halves together. If we can do that, we'll give ourselves a chance to get in the win column."

Jacob hopes that happens tonight when Oakwood (0-7) visits Tougaloo College (5-3, 0-1) in its GCAC opener. Tipoff is 7:30.
Tougaloo was picked to finish fourth in the GCAC preseason poll, while Oakwood was picked to finish sixth.

The Bulldogs have won back-to-back games since falling to Talladega College 76-72 in their GCAC opener.

Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL), Nicholas Kennard (Nashville, TN), Brian Williams (Colquitt, GA) and Amyr Dickerson (Atlanta, GA) combined for 60 of Oakwood's 76 points in the loss to Cumberland.

Prophete scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had five blocks. Kennard finished with 14 points, while Williams and Dickerson had 10 apiece.

Prophete is averaging 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while Kennard is averaging 9.8 points per game.

Tougaloo has been led by John Wesley Taylor and Keondre Montgomery.
