OAKWOOD MEN'S BASKETBALL VISITS MILES COLLEGE TONIGHT

BIRMINGHAM – The pre-conference season hasn't been easy for the Oakwood University men's basketball team.

The Ambassadors are 0-5 and have struggled mightily in each of their five losses. They have averaged just 55 points per game, while shooting 33.8 percent from the field and 21.2 percent from 3-point range.

Coach Simon Jacob hopes a little time off and a little more time in the gym will pay off tonight when Oakwood visits Miles College (2-1) at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Tipoff is 7.

"We've got to start playing better and hopefully that starts tonight," Jacob said. "We've got a couple of games to fix things before we open up conference play."

After tonight's game, Oakwood visits Cumberland University Tuesday night before opening Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play Thursday at Tougaloo College.

One of the big reasons why Oakwood has struggled is its inability to score.

Nicholas Kennard (Nashville, TN) is the Ambassadors' leading scorer, but he is averaging just 8.8 points per game. Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) and Jaywill Thornton (Brooklyn, MS) are averaging 7.0 points per game apiece.

Alvin Miles is averaging 16 points per game to lead the Golden Bears.
