Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

WILLIAMS COMES UP BIG, BUT GETS LITTLE HELP AS OAKWOOD FALLS TO STILLMAN

Brian Williams was supposed to carry a lot of the scoring load for Oakwood University this season.

One of two seniors on the team, Judelin Prophete is the other one, Williams had gotten off to a rough start through the Ambassadors' first three games.

After scoring seven points in the season opener against Washington Adventist, Williams failed to score in back-to-back blowout losses to Point University and Tennessee-Southern.

Saturday night, however, Williams showed up.

He finished with a game-high 20 points, but got little help from his friends as Stillman College downed Oakwood 83-62 at Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors fell to 0-4 with the loss, while the Tigers improved to 1-2.

Williams was 6-of-7 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He also had two rebounds and two blocks. Meanwhile, the rest of the team was 16-of-48 from the field and 2-of-17 from 3-point range. Other than Williams, nobody else had more than eight points.

Stillman scored the first eight points of the game and was never headed after that.

JB Moore hit two free throws with just over two minutes left in the first half to pull Oakwood within 32-25, but the Ambassadors couldn't get any closer. The Tigers led 37-25 at intermission and led by as many as 22 points at 84-62 on a jumper by Justin Minter with just over a minute remaining.

Oakwood shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field, including 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the free throw line.

Marcus Bates led five Stillman players in double figures with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field, including 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range, and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood hosts Freed-Hardeman Tuesday night at 7.
