OAKWOOD WOMEN RUN OUT OF GAS AND FALLS TO WAU

 
TAKOMA PARK, MD. – Oakwood University gave Washington Adventist all it could handle during the first three quarters Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Lady Ambassadors ran out of gas in the fourth quarter.

WAU outscored Oakwood 29-11 in the last 10 minutes and went on to a 76-62 victory in the season opener for both teams at The Pitt.

The Lady Ambassadors fell to 0-1, while the Shock improved to 1-0.

Oakwood led 51-47 entering the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold off WAU.

Newcomer RB Mitchell led the Lady Ambassadors with 17 points. She was 7-of-11 from the field on the night. Trenisha Adams, a first-team All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference preseason selection, finished with 14 points. She was 5-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists.

Oakwood shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, including 45 percent (9-of-20) from 3-point range and 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from the free throw line. The Lady Ambassadors hurt themselves with 22 turnovers and were outrebounded 40-26.

Sarah Shamdeen led five WAU players in double figures with 17 points. The Shock shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the field, including 17.2 percent (5-of-29) from 3-point range and 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the free throw line.
