NEW ORLEANS, La. –
Hannah Cohn scored 21 points and
Nekaya Williams chipped in 13, but it wasn't nearly enough as Oakwood University fell 89-69 Friday afternoon to Wiley College in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Dent Hall at Dillard University.
The Lady Ambassadors scored the first five points of the game, but the Lady Wildcats closed the quarter with a 19-6 run and never looked back. Wiley outscored Oakwood 30-11 in the second quarter to take a commanding 49-22 halftime advantage.
The loss dropped Oakwood to 3-11 overall and 1-1 in league play. Wiley improved to 10-3 and 1-1.
Oakwood shot 31.9 percent (23-of-72) from the field, including 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from 3-point range, and 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the free throw line.
In addition to her 21 points, Cohn (Decatur, AL) also had six rebounds and three steals. Williams (Lilburn, GA) also had seven rebounds and five steals.
The Lady Ambassadors hurt themselves with a whopping 41 turnovers and had just nine assists. Wiley outscored Oakwood 36-22 off turnovers and 54-35 in bench points.
Kayja Jackson led five Lady Wildcats in double figures with 21 points.
Wiley shot 34.5 percent (30-of-87) from the field, including 36 percent (9-of-25) from 3-point range, and 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the charity stripe.
Oakwood will take on Dillard today at 5 p.m.
