OAKWOOD FALTERS DOWN THE STRETCH IN NARROW LOSS TO WASHINGTON ADVENTIST

Edmen Steward's 3-pointer gave Oakwood University its last lead of the game with just under six minutes remaining, but the Ambassadors managed just one field goal the rest of the way as Washington Adventist rallied for a 62-59 victory Saturday night at Ashby Auditorium in a men's college basketball game.

Steward led all scorers with 25 points, but missed his last three shots, including two free throws with 17 seconds left, and the Ambassadors down 58-56.

Oakwood fell to 2-10 with the loss. WAU improved to 8-2 with the season sweep.

Steward was 8-of-21 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, but just 4-of-10 from the free throw line. He grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocked shots.

Judelin Prophete finished with 15 points on 5-for-5 shooting, five rebounds and three blocks, while A'drelin Robinson had 12 points, including two 3-pointers, and four rebounds.

The Ambassadors shot just 37 percent (21-of-57) from the field, including 35 percent (8-of-23) from 3-point range and 56 percent (9-of-16) from the free throw line.

Oakwood fell behind by nine points with just under four minutes left in the first half, but used a 14-5 run to pull within 36-33 at intermission. Steward had 10 points during the run, including two 3-pointers.

The Ambassadors tied the game at 48 on a layup by Robinson at the 9:16 mark and took its last lead four minutes later, but couldn't hold off the Shock, who closed the game on an 11-5 run to seal the victory.

Mohamed Bundu led three WAU players in double figures with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Shock won the game at the free throw line, converting 21-of-28 on the night, compared to just 9-of-16 for the Ambassadors.

Oakwood is back in action at Fisk University on Jan. 8.
