Edmen Steward scored a game-high 28 points and three other players finished in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University fell 93-85 to Middle Georgia State University in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic at Tine W. Davis Gym in Montgomery on Friday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 1-2 on the season. Meanwhile, the Knights improved to 3-1.
Oakwood trailed 48-46 at intermission, but Steward opened the second half with six straight points to give the Ambassadors a 52-48 advantage. With the game tied at 67 apiece, Middle Georgia State outscored Oakwood 24-16 over the next seven-plus minutes to go up 91-83 and the outcome was never in doubt. Oakwood never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
Steward was very efficient for the Ambassadors.
He was 11-of-18 from the field, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Steward also grabbed six rebounds.
Nicholas Kennard finished with 15 points, while Judelin Prophete had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Grener Polynice chipped in with 10.
Oakwood shot 49 percent (33-of-67) from the field, including 38 percent (10-of-26) from 3-point range and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe.
 Brice Martin led four Knights in double figures with 18 points.
The big difference in the game came at the foul line where Oakwood was 9-of-12, while Middle Georgia State was 22-of-31.
Oakwood will take on host team Faulkner tonight at 7.
