OAKWOOD TO TAKE ON MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE, FAULKNER IN JIMMY FAULKNER CLASSIC

HOST EAGLES ONE OF TOP NAIA PROGRAMS IN THE NATION

Oakwood University will take on one of the better National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) basketball programs in the Southeast in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic this weekend in Montgomery.

The Ambassadors will take on Middle Georgia State today at 3 p.m. at Tine W. Davis Gym, before taking on host team Faulkner Saturday night at 7. Faulkner advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last season after winning the Opening Round Montgomery Bracket.

Oakwood enters the game 1-1 after losing to Washington Adventist University last weekend, before knocking off Stillman College 50-48 Tuesday night at Ashby Auditorium. It was the Ambassadors' first win over the Tigers in 10 meetings.

Middle Georgia State is 2-1, losing to Florida College, while beating Southeastern University and College of Coastal Georgia.

Faulkner is 1-0 after blowing out Huntingdon College 101-74 just over a week ago.

The Eagles led 39-37 at halftime before outscoring the Hawks 62-37 in the second half. Jonathan Garcia, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard, led the way with 24 points, including five 3-pointers. Elijah Jones, a 6-7 senior transfer from Middle Georgia State, finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.
