Edmen Steward scored a game-high 22 points, but got little help from his teammates as Oakwood University suffered a 104-47 loss to West Alabama Tuesday night at Pruitt Hall.
The Ambassadors fell behind 16-2 five minutes into the game and never recovered in dropping their eighth straight game. It was 50-16 at halftime and only got worse from there.
Oakwood fell to 1-9 with the loss. The Ambassadors have given up 80 points or more in eight of their nine losses, including over 100 points three times. West Alabama improved to 4-0.
Steward was the lone bright spot for the Ambassadors.
The 6-foot-5 senior forward out of Detroit was 7-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Steward also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team managed just 25 points on the night.
Oakwood shot 36 percent (17-of-47) from the field, including 38 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range and 80 percent (8-of-10) from the charity stripe. The Ambassadors hurt themselves by committing 28 turnovers.
Justin Allison led five West Alabama players in double figures with 17 points.
The Tigers shot 60 percent (45-of-75) from the field, scored 70 points in the paint, got 48 points from their reserves, 42 points off turnovers and 29 fast break points.
Oakwood is back in action Monday when it visits Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.
