AMBASSADORS OPENING NIGHT

OAKWOOD VISITS WASHINGTON ADVENTIST IN EARLY SEASON TEST

Oakwood University men's basketball opens its 2022-2023 season tonight when it visits Washington Adventist University in the season opener for both teams. Tipoff is set for 6:30 at The Pitt in Takoma Park, Md.

We're going to find out a lot about ourselves," Oakwood coach Simon Jacob said. "I think we have a solid team. We've got a lot of pieces."

Three of those pieces, seniors Edmen Stewart and Robert Booker II along with junior Judelin Prophette, are all returning starters.

"Our team will go as far as they go," Jacob said.

Stewart, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, averaged 16.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last season. Prophette, a 6-5 small forward, averaged eight points and seven rebounds a year ago, while Booker II is expected to be the Ambassadors' enforcer inside.

"Stewart is a great scorer, while Booker does all of the dirty work for us," Jacob said. "Prophette is very athletic. We're looking for him to take a big step offensively and defensively."

Jacob said he expects three newcomers to play pivotal roles for his team.

Point guard A'drelin Robinson, shooting guard Nicholas Kennard and small forward Jordan Green are expected to pay dividends right away.

"We're counting on them to impact our program," Jacob said.

Robinson averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals, while Kennard is expected to be one of Oakwood's better scorers. Meanwhile, Jacob said Green is gifted athletically.

Washington Adventist leads the all-time series 11-6 and has won four of the last five meetings.
