OAKWOOD OUTLASTS LEMOYNE-OWEN COLLEGE TO PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Oakwood University volleyball picked up its first win of the season Tuesday night, outlasting LeMoyne-Owen College 3-2 inside Johnson Gymnasium.
 
The Ambassadors won 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17 and 15-9.
 
Oakwood trailed 2-1 before rallying to win the last two sets to snap its five-game losing
streak.
 
The win lifted the Ambassadors to 1-5 on the season, while the Magicians fell to 0-9. It was Oakwood's first win of the season against an NCAA Division II opponent. The Ambassadors had lost earlier in the season to Miles College and Tuskegee University.
 
Kamaria Murray led Oakwood with a game-high 17 kills. She also had four aces.
 
Harmonie Banks backed Murray with nine kills.
 
Alexis Wiley had 24 assists and 13 digs, while Hannah Daniel and Shania McKelvey finished with 18 and 12 digs, respectively.
 
Kennedy White led LeMoyne-Owen with 12 kills and also had 18 digs.
 
Madelyn Ross had 21 assists, while Abbie Chatman finished with 17 assists and 11
digs.
 
Makayla Smith had a team-high 19 digs for the Magicians.
 
Oakwood opens HBCU Athletic Conference play Thursday at home against Fisk University. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Ashby Auditorium.
