OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL SHOCKS TALLADEGA COLLEGE

AMBASSADORS START 2-0 FOR FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University volleyball opened the season 2-0 for the first time in school history Friday, outlasting defending HBCU Athletic Conference regular season champion Talladega College 3-2 and then beating Baptist University of Florida 3-1 in the Talladega College Labor Day Tournament inside the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
 
The Ambassadors turned back the Tornadoes 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 26-28 and 15-10. They followed that up by beating the Eagles 25-21, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-20.
 
Oakwood is 2-0 on the young season, including 1-0 in the HBCUAC under first-year head coach Wayne Bucknor.
 
Oakwood 3, Talladega College 2
 
Kamaria Murray, a sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., led the Ambassadors with 11 kills. She also had five digs and two assists.
 
Morgan Bone finished with 10 kills, seven digs and three assists, while Harmonie Banks had nine kills, three digs and three blocks.
 
Cameryn Bucknor had 18 assists, 13 digs and three kills, while Alexis Wiley finished with 11 assists, eight digs and three kills.
 
Arial Smith had eight digs and five assists, while Anna Jones and Myah Beasley finished with eight and seven digs, respectively.
 
Taquia Rounds led the Tornadoes with 15 kills. Sha'Niya Cribbs had a game-high 19 assists, while Briyith Echeverri finished with 22 digs.
 
Oakwood 3, Baptist University 1
 
Murray had a game-high 12 assists along with five digs against the Eagles.
 
Banks finished with seven kills, while Wiley had a double-double with 12 assists and 15 digs.
 
Isbela Acevedo led Baptist University with 12 kills and 11 digs.
 
Oakwood will host Miles College Tuesday in its home opener inside Ashby Auditorium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
