SPIRITED EFFORT FROM OAKWOOD NOT ENOUGH TO OUTLAST MILES

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Oakwood University put together one of its best efforts of the season Tuesday night, but the Ambassadors ran out of gas down the stretch as Miles College emerged with an 87-75 non-conference victory inside Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

Oakwood led 34-30 at intermission and Khari Person's 3-pointer with 13:22 remaining gave the Ambassadors a 50-49 advantage, but the Golden Bears outscored Oakwood 38-25 the rest of the way enroute to their eighth straight victory.

Oakwood fell to 2-21 with the loss, while Miles improved to 17-3.

Jamarkus Alexander led four Oakwood players in double figures with 22 points. He was 8-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range to go along with six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.

Jordan Bell finished with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, five rebounds, two assists and a block.

Steven Aroh scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also had three assists, one rebound and a steal.

Brian Williams added 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting, including three 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

The Ambassadors shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field, including 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from 3-point range, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free throw line.

Travarus Carroll led four Miles players in double figures with 25 points.

Najashi Tolefree finished with 18 points, while Alvin Miles and Corey Trotter scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.

The Golden Bears shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the field, including 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the charity stripe.

Miles enjoyed a big advantage in points in the paint (62-24), bench points (35-7), points off turnovers (21-4) and second chance points (20-6).

Oakwood is back in action Thursday at Stillman College.
