GRIFFIN, BARNETT AND BELL SHINE IN LOSS TO PHILANDER SMITH

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oakwood University had three players finish in double figures Thursday night, but it wasn't enough as Philander Smith College cruised to an easy 98-78 victory in a men's non-conference basketball game inside Mims Gym.
 
The Ambassadors trailed 38-37 at intermission, but the Panthers outscored them 60-41 in the second half to win going away.
 
Oakwood fell to 3-9 with the loss. Philander Smith improved to 10-1.
 
Jason Griffin led the Ambassadors with 21 points and six rebounds. He was 6-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and made all seven of his free throw attempts.
 
Joshua Barnett finished with 19 points and six rebounds. He was 9-of-14 from the field and had five assists.
 
Jordan Bell had 17 points and three rebounds.
 
Oakwood shot 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the field, including 27.8 percent from 3-point range, and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the free throw line.
 
Raymond Reece led the Panthers with 32 points and 13 rebounds. Elijah Anderson finished with 20 points, while Evan Alexander and Kesean Washington scored 17 and 13 points, respectively.
 
Philander Smith shot 57.6 percent (38-of-66) from the field, including 50 percent (9-of-18) from 3-point range, and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood will host Fisk University Saturday night in an HBCUAC game at 6 inside Ashby Auditorium.
