KEY FREE THROWS, STEAL HELP OAKWOOD OUTLAST VOORHEES IN HBCUAC ACTION

DENMARK, S.C. – Oakwood University made four free throws in the final 41 seconds and Devin Faulkner came up with a steal as time expired to help the Ambassadors hang on for a hard fought 85-83 win over Voorhees University Saturday night in an HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Voorhees Arena.
 
The win lifted Oakwood to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Tigers fell to 2-8 and 1-1.
 
The Ambassadors led 61-46 after a 3-pointer by Grener Polynice with just under 12 minutes to play, but the Tigers battled back.
 
Voorhees used a 19-4 run to tie the game at 65-all on a 3-pointer by Daethan Harris with seven minutes left. Xavier Finney's free throw with just over a minute left tied the game again at 78 for the Tigers.
 
Joshua Barnett made two free throws with 41 seconds left to give Oakwood an 83-82 advantage.
 
Later, Jordan Bell made a free throw and Faulkner made another one as the Ambassadors escaped with their first conference win of the season.
 
Bell led Oakwood with 26 points and eight rebounds. He was 8-of-11 from the field, including two 3-pointers.
 
Barnett finished with 14 points on 3-of-7 shooting, including two 3-pointers. He was also 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
 
Faulkner scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds and the game-sealing steal as time expired.
 
The Ambassadors shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field, including 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from 3-point range, and 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the free throw line.
 
Omari Bryson led the Tigers with a game-high 31 points. Harris and Gabriel Wright finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Voorhees shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field, including 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the charity stripe.
