WASHINGTON ADVENTIST OUTLASTS OAKWOOD AFTER ADAMS' 3-POINTER RIMS OUT AS TIME EXPIRES

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Trenisha Adams' 3-pointer as time expired rimmed out Saturday night as Washington Adventist hung on to beat Oakwood University 57-54 inside Ashby Auditorium in a non-conference women's basketball game.

The Ambassadors trailed throughout the game, but battled back and pulled within 56-54 on a 3-pointer by Alecia Reasor with 10 seconds left. Isabela Lujan-Gonzales hit a free throw to give the Shock a 57-54 advantage with six seconds remaining.

Oakwood had one last chance to force overtime, but Adams' 3-pointer wouldn't go down as time ran out.

"We got the shot we wanted," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "It just didn't go in. Really, the game shouldn't have come down to that."

The Ambassadors hurt themselves by going 12-of-30 from the charity stripe.

"If we make some free throws, we win the game," Abrams said.

Oakwood fell to 1-3 with the loss. Washington Adventist improved to 1-0.

Saniya Keys led the Ambassadors with 16 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. She was only 6-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-16 from the free throw line.

Adams finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Oakwood shot 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the field, including 30 percent (12-of-30) from 3-point range, and 40 percent (12-of-30) from the charity stripe.

Heather Middleton led Washington Adventist with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Lujan-Gonzales and Tye Queen had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Shock shot 28.4 percent (21-of-74) from the field, including 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the free throw line.

Oakwood is back in action Tuesday at Tennessee Southern.
