BELL SHINES AGAIN FOR OAKWOOD, BUT SHOCK PULLS AWAY DOWN THE STRETCH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jordan Bell scored 20 or more points for the third time in as many games this season, but it wasn't enough as Washington Adventist University pulled away down the stretch to beat Oakwood University 98-83 Saturday night in a men's non-conference game inside Ashby Auditorium.
 
The Ambassadors trailed 48-41 at halftime, but Jordan Hill hit two free throws with just over 10 minutes left to pull Oakwood within 68-65, but the Shock closed the game on a 30-18 run to win going away.
 
The loss dropped Oakwood to 0-4 on the season. Washington Adventist improved to 1-0.
 
Bell finished with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting and nine rebounds. He also had two blocks and a steal.
 
Hill scored 15 points, while Damon Fann had 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
 
Grener Polynice finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
The Ambassadors shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field, including 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from 3-point range, and 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the free throw line.
 
Joey Brown IV led WAU with 31 points. Derrick Jones Jr. finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Chase Cook also scored 17 points.
 
The Shock shot 50 percent (36-of-72) from the field, including 44 percent (11-of-25) from beyond the arc, and 60 percent (15-of-25) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood is back in action Monday night at Jacksonville State in an exhibition game.
