BELL COMES UP BIG, BUT OAKWOOD FALLS IN HOME OPENER

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jordan Bell has played like an All-HBCU Athletic Conference performer through Oakwood University's first two games. Unfortunately, it hasn't been good enough to put the Ambassadors in the win column.

Bell scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday night, but Freed-Hardeman, ranked fifth in the NAIA preseason poll, had five players in double figures and left town with a 76-55 victory inside Ashby Auditorium.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 0-2 on the season, while Freed-Hardeman improved to 1-0.

Bell was 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He also had three assists, one steal and one block.

Jordan Hill backed Bell with 12 points and three rebounds.

The Ambassadors shot 32.6 percent (15-of-46) from the field, including 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from 3-point range, and 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the free throw line.

Sam Powell led five Lions in double figures with 15 points.

Jamarcus Powell finished with 13, Rico Sain and Rodney Henderson had 11 each, and Lane Lauderbaugh added 10.

Freed-Hardeman shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field, including 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from beyond the arc, and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will try to pick its first win of the season Tuesday at Dalton State College. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
