OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS STILLMAN COLLEGE IN FIVE SETS TO SNAP FOUR-GAME LOSING STREAK

HUNTSVILLE – Oakwood University volleyball, riding a four-game losing streak, needed all hands on deck Saturday night with Stillman College in town for an important HBCU Athletic Conference game.
 
After the Ambassadors won the first set, the Tigers won the next two to take a 2-1 advantage. However, Wayne Bucknor's team got off the mat and stormed back to take the next two sets to come away with a 3-2 victory inside Ashby Auditorium.
 
When it was over, Oakwood emerged with a 27-25, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-9 win.
 
"Our team showed a lot of character and toughness tonight," Bucknor said. "After falling behind 2-1, we could have folded, but they refused to quit. They battled back and found a way to win and I'm proud of them for the grit they showed."
 
The Ambassadors improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league play with the win. The Tigers fell to 2-14 and 1-6.
 
Kamaria Murray, who has been battling injuries of late, finished with a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs to lead Oakwood. Mona Okello had 11 kills and nine digs.
 
Cameryn Bucknor posted a double-double, finishing with 23 assists and 17 digs.
Alexis Wiley had 16 assists.
 
Miriangie Rondon had 15 digs, while Arial Smith finished with 14.
 
 
Ava Cameron led the Tigers with 12 kills. Paige Eason and Brianna Moore had 11 each.
 
Kelis Conley had 24 assists and 12 digs, while Karen White finished with 13 assists.
 
Zoey Sales had a game-high 29 digs, while Shelby Morris and Grace Fjeldstad had 16 and 10, respectively.
