OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL COMES UP SHORT IN HOME OPENER DESPITE STRONG EFFORT FROM MURRAY

Huntsville, Ala. – Oakwood University volleyball put together a spirited effort in its home opener Monday night, but came up short as Welch College came away with a 3-1 victory inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Flames downed the Ambassadors 21-25, 27-25, 25-19 and 25-21.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 1-4 on the season. Welch College improved to 1-1.

Kamaria Murray had a strong overall game to lead the Ambassadors, finishing with seven kills, 10 digs and six service aces.

Cequoyah Harris led Oakwood with nine kills, while Mona Okello and Hannah Wingate finished with eight and seven, respectively.

Jea Joseph led the Ambassadors with 11 digs, while Okello and Cameryn Bucknor finished with eight and seven, respectively.

Bucknor had a team-high 16 assists, while Miriangie Rondon had eight.

Michaela Pinkerman led Welch with 25 kills, while Zoey McKnight finished with 14.

Kelsie Southerland had 16 digs, while Areli Vela Alvarez had 15. Mae Voorhies had a game-high 38 assists.

Oakwood visits Freed-Hardeman Thursday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
