OAKWOOD SPLITS A PAIR OF MATCHES AT HBCUAC CROSSOVER

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University split a pair of volleyball matches here Friday in the HBCU Athletic Conference Crossover, falling 3-0 to Philander Smith, while beating Wiley University 3-0 inside the Hawkins Student Activity Center.
 
The Ambassadors fell 25-20, 25-17 and 25-13 to the Panthers, before bouncing back to beat the Wildcats 25-12, 25-23 and 25-19.
 
Oakwood improved to 9-14 overall and 7-6 in league play with the split.

The Ambassadors battled the Panthers in the first game 25-20, but came up short in the next two games.
 
Kamaria Murray led Oakwood with eight kills, while Mona Okello and Cequoyah Harris finished with five and four, respectively.
 
Cameryn Bucknor finished with a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs. Myah Beasley and Miriangie Rondon had eight digs each.
 
Zarea Winn led Philander Smith with 13 kills. Karissa Maldonado finished with 31 assist and 12 digs. Christlove Lauture had a game-high 16 digs.
 
Oakwood 3, Wiley 0

The Ambassadors downed the Wildcats in straight sets to earn the split.
 
Okello led the way with nine kills, while Murray finished with eight. Bucknor and Harris finished with five apiece.
 
Bucknor had a game-high 24 assists and also contributed 11 digs.
 
Okello had 12 digs, while Arial Smith matched Bucknor with 11 digs. Rondon finished with nine.
 
Madisyn Moore led Wiley with six kills. Lynnetra Taylor had eight assists and Nadia Cortez and Maria Guinyard had 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
Oakwood is back in action Tuesday at Wilberforce University.
