TUSCALOOSA – Oakwood University volleyball coach Takhera Sanders brought in 10 new players to help bolster the Ambassadors' fortunes this season.
Three of those newcomers came up big Thursday night to make Sanders a winner in her debut as Oakwood downed Stillman College 28-26, 25-13 and 25-20 in the season opener for both teams at Birthright Alumni Hall.
Freshman
Trinity Williams (Midlothian, TX) finished with 11 kills and nine digs, while sophomore
Anna Jones (Attalla, AL), a transfer from Calhoun Community College, had seven kills and two digs to lead the Ambassadors.
Freshman
Shaniya Brown (Dallas, TX) had 11 digs, while sophomore
Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) had 20 assists and seven digs. Bucknor also had four service aces.
Aeraeonna Manuel led Stillman with 13 kills, while Gracie Fjeldstad finished with 14 assists and 13 digs.
Oakwood will try to sweep the season series when Stillman comes to town on August 28 for the Ambassadors' home opener. First serve is 6 p.m.
