JACKSON, Miss. – Tougaloo College roughed up Oakwood University pitcher
Jorge Hernandez early on and never looked back in beating the Ambassadors 22-8 Friday afternoon in the 2023 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship at the Hank Aaron Sports Academy Smith-Wills Stadium.
Hernandez (Santo Domingo, DR), who was named All-GCAC second team on Thursday, lasted just 1/3 of an inning, allowing seven runs on just two hits. He faced only eight batters, walked five of them, and failed to record a strikeout after leading Oakwood pitchers with 26 on the season.
Oakwood ends the season 0-27. Tougaloo improved to 10-33.
Jeremy Matos (Santo Domingo, DR) led Oakwood's offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Dylan Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba) had a hit, two RBI and scored a run, while
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta, GA) had a hit and scored two runs.
Dimarcos Pereira (Keene, TX) scored two runs and had an RBI,
Akari David (Tallahassee, FL) scored a run and had an RBI,
Erick Perez (Santo Domingo, DR) scored a run and had an RBI and
Jordan Jennings (Greenville, MS) scored a run.
Hernandez, who led the Ambassadors in virtually every statistical offensive category, including a .386 batting average, went 0-for-4, but had an RBI.
