MARSHALL, Texas –
Keiah Dancy's putback with just under two minutes remaining pulled Oakwood University even with Southern University at New Orleans Sunday afternoon, but the Ambassadors missed their last four shots from the field, including two layups, as the Knights scored the last five points of the game to earn a 64-59 victory on the final day of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Alumni Gymnasium.
Oakwood trailed 49-41 entering the fourth quarter, but used an 18-9 run to tie the game at 59-all on Dancy's putback. However, the Ambassadors failed to score the rest of the way in dropping their third straight game.
Oakwood fell to 5-20 overall and 3-10 in league play. SUNO improved to 3-17 and 1-12.
Dancy (Detroit, MI) led four Oakwood players in double figures with 14 points.
Nekaya Williams (Lilburn, GA) scored 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and handed out five assists, while
Trenisha Adams (Rome, GA) and
Hannah Cohn (Decatur, AL) finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Cohn also had eight rebounds.
The Ambassadors shot 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the field, including 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range, and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the free throw line. Oakwood also hurt itself with 27 turnovers.
Jordan Harris led four SUNO players in double figures with 19 points. Jashyree Bell, McKenna Harris and Ananya Donaldson had 11 apiece.
The Knights shot 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the field, including 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the charity stripe.
Oakwood hosts Fisk University Thursday night at 6 in its final game of the regular season.
