KENNARD, PROPHETE NOT ABLE TO GET OAKWOOD IN THE WIN COLUMN

 PULASKI, Tenn. – Nicholas Kennard scored 19 points and Judelin Prophete chipped in 11, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University lost for the third time in as many games this season, falling to the University of Tennessee-Southern 91-54 Saturday night in the Firehawks Classic at the Curry Athletic Complex.

The Ambassadors fell to 0-3 with the loss, while UT-Southern improved to 3-1.

Kennard, a junior from Nashville, was 8-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range. Prophete, a senior from Miami, was 5-of-10 from the field.

While Kennard and Prophete combined for 30 points, the rest of the team managed just 24 between them.

The Ambassadors shot just 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field, including 19 percent (4-of-21) from 3-point, and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the free throw line.

Oakwood had 17 turnovers and managed only seven assists.

Malik Tyson, a former Sparkman High standout, was one of five Firehawks in double figures with 15 points. Kendall Wright, who also played at Sparkman, finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Adarion Hudson had 13 points, while Bradin Nelson and Brady Brown had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UT-Southern shot 61.4 percent (35-of-57) from the field, including 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from 3-point range, and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line. The Firehawks had 19 assists on 35 made baskets.

Oakwood is at Alabama A&M Monday night in an exhibition game at 7.
