OAKWOOD MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO WASHINGTON ADVENTIST IN SEASON OPENER

TAKOMA PARK, Md. -  After holding a slim lead at halftime, Oakwood University men's basketball couldn't keep up in the second half as Washington Adventist came away with a 71-62 victory Saturday night at The Pitt.

The Ambassadors led 37-34 at intermission, but the Shock outscored them 37-25 in the final 20 minutes.

Oakwood fell to 0-1 on the season. WAU improved to 1-1.

Newcomer Jaywill Thornton led the Ambassadors with 14 points. He was 4-of-8 from the field, including a 3-pointer. Felix McGhee finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range.

Oakwood shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, including 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from 3-point range, and shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

The Ambassadors were outrebounded 40-28.

Mohamed Bundu led the Shock with 25 points, while Xzavaier Hawkins finished with 13.

WAU shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field, including 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from 3-point range, and 61.3 percent (19-of-31) from the free throw line.
