Oakwood University volleyball outlasted Tougaloo College in four games Saturday night at Ashby Auditorium in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference match.

The Bulldogs, who entered the game 1-11 in league play, gave the Ambassadors all they could handle before falling 25-13, 17-25, 27-25 and 25-23.

The win lifted Oakwood, who honored seniors Kaayla Butler (Seattle, WA) and Nataeya Dickerson (Hampstead, MD) before the game, to 7-12 overall and 5-9 in league play. Tougaloo fell to 1-11 in league play.

Oakwood won the first game 25-13, but Tougaloo battled back to take the second one 25-17. The next two went down to the wire.

Both teams had leads in the third game, but down the stretch, it was tied 24-all and 25-all, before Oakwood scored the last two points to win 27-25. The fourth game was tied on several occasions, including 20-20 before the Ambassadors scored four unanswered points to go up 24-20.

Tougaloo pulled within 24-23 before Dorian Birch (Ooltewah, TN) finished it with her career-high 12th kill of the night.
