OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL PUSHES TALLADEGA TO THE LIMIT BEFORE FALLING IN STRAIGHT SETS

Oakwood University volleyball entered Tuesday night's game with Gulf Coast Athletic Conference leader Talladega College hoping to make a statement.

The Tornadoes had dominated the Ambassadors earlier in the season, but the Ambassadors had hopes of pulling off the upset.

Oakwood wasn't able to pull it off, but the Ambassadors gave the Tornadoes all they could handle before falling 3-0 at Ashby Auditorium.

Talladega won 25-13, 25-20 and 25-22.

"I am proud of the way we played," senior middle hitter Nataeya Dickerson said. "Some teams look at us as if we're not a good team. I think we proved them wrong. Those last two games could have gone either way."

The loss, Oakwood's third in a row, dropped the Ambassadors to 6-12 overall and 4-9 in league play. Talladega improved to 23-8 and 14-1.

Mona Okello (Overland Park, KS), Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) and Kaayla Butler (Seattle, WA) led Oakwood with six kills apiece.

Shaniya Brown (Dallas, TX) had a team-high 24 digs, while Okello had 11. Bucknor finished with 12 assists.

Zyaire Prettie Garrit led Talladega with 14 kills, while Nedu Evans finished with 10.

Briyith Echeverri had 19 digs, while Giovana Costarelli added 10. Costarelli also had a game-high 20 assists, while Dominique Madarang had 14.
