OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO PHILANDER SMITH

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oakwood University volleyball struggled mightily Saturday night and Philander Smith took advantage enroute to a 3-0 win in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at Mims Gymnasium.

The Panthers downed the Ambassadors 25-12, 25-7 and 25-8.

Both teams entered the game with four conference wins apiece, but by winning the game and sweeping the season series, Philander Smith has the head-to-head tiebreaker over Oakwood should the teams end up tied in the standings.

The Ambassadors fell to 6-10 overall and 4-7 with the loss. The Panthers improved to 8-11 and 5-5 in league play.

Kaayla Butler (Seattle, WA) led Oakwood with five kills. Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) had eight digs, while La'Mya Mosley (Nashville, TN) added seven. Bucknor also added seven assists.

Ja'Niya Sanders led Philander Smith with 11 kills, while Kiah Rucker added nine. Maya Jones, Adrianna Evans and Zarea Winn had 10 digs apiece, while Essence Wren had 32 assists.
