OAKWOOD BATTLED HARD IN LATE LOSS TO TOUGALOO IN GCAC ROUND UP

Oakwood University gave Tougaloo College all it could handle for more than 36 minutes Tuesday night in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Ashby Auditorium.

Keiah Dancy's three-point play with just under five minutes remaining gave the Lady Ambassadors, who trailed by as many as 14 points, a 63-61 lead. After Berniya Harden scored five unanswered points to put the Lady Bulldogs back on top, Nekaya Williams hit two free throws to pull Oakwood within 66-65 with 3:47 to play.

Unfortunately, Oakwood managed just two points the rest of the way as Tougaloo went on to claim an 80-67 victory before a raucous crowd.

The loss dropped the Lady Ambassadors to 4-15 overall and 2-5 in league play. Tougaloo improved to 4-11 and 3-4.

Oakwood trailed 43-32 at halftime, but opened the second half with a 12-4 run to  pull within 47-44 on a 3-pointer by Hannah Cohn with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.

Tougaloo regrouped and scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 57-46 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Ambassadors started the fourth quarter strong, using a 17-2 run to take a 63-61 lead on Dancy's three-point play at the 4:59 mark. From there, Oakwood scored just four points the rest of the way in suffering its fourth straight loss.
