Chyna Brown posted a double-double and two of her teammates finished in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University came up short in a 68-61 loss Saturday night at Crowley's Ridge College.
The Lady Ambassadors fell to 2-13 with the loss, while the Lady Pioneers improved to 6-4.
Brown's layup with just under two minutes left in the third quarter tied the game at 46 apiece, but Crowley's Ridge closed the quarter with a 7-0 run to go up 53-46. The Lady Ambassadors battled back again and
Jayda Caldwell's layup with 7:48 to play gave Oakwood a 54-53 lead, but the Lady Pioneers used a 12-1 run to take command down the stretch to secure the victory.
Nekaya Williams led Oakwood with 17 points and six rebounds.
Denaj'za Jackson finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Brown had 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
The Lady Ambassadors shot 33.3 percent (24-of-72) from the field, including 19 percent (4-of-21) from 3-point range, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line. Oakwood also hurt itself with 23 turnovers.
Octavia Lowery led three Crowley's Ridge players in double figures with 19 points.
Oakwood is back in action on January 8 when it visits Fisk University in its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener.
