BIRMINGHAM – Oakwood University battled Savannah State University for three quarters here Friday night in the Miles College Classic, but simply ran out of gas as the Lady Tigers used a big fourth quarter to beat the Lady Ambassadors 88-70 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
Oakwood fell to 0-8 with the loss. Savannah State improved to 2-0.
Nekaya Williams led three Lady Ambassadors in double figures with a game-high 21 points. Brittany Lawless-Sherrill finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points, while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Denaj'za Jackson added 11 points.
Oakwood shot 33 percent (22-of-66) from the field, including 19 percent (5-of-26) from the field and 72 percent (21-of-29) from the free throw line.
Bria Gibbs led five Lady Tigers in double figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
