Takhera Sanders is entering her first season as the volleyball coach at Oakwood University.
Sanders, a 2018 graduate of Sparkman High School, was a two-year starter for the Senators. An outside/right side hitter, Sanders was named Sparkman’s Best Offensive Player in 2017.
After graduating from Sparkman, Sanders moved on to Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, where she was a two-year starter. She set a record for most kills in school history in 2018.
After leaving Lawson State, Sanders spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons at Alabama A&M, but did not play due to the pandemic.
Sanders has been involved in club volleyball with the Rocket City Volleyball Club, led by Rose Powell, her former coach at Alabama A&M.
Sanders graduated from Lawson State with an Associate’s degree in Health Education and from Alabama A&M with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Sociology.
