Robert Harris

Bob Harris is entering his third season as the softball coach at Oakwood University.  He also serves as the athletics recruiting coordinator.

COACHING CAREER
While this is Harris’s third season as the softball coach, he is no stranger  to the coaching profession.

Harris coached the Alabama Twisters, a girls AAU basketball team, from 2008 through 2016. He then came to Oakwood in 2018 and served as the women’s basketball coach for two seasons. During that time, Harris was also a men’s assistant basketball coach from 2018-2022 and helped the Ambassadors win the 2019 United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship.

He was recently named head softball coach and has also taken on the role of athletics recruiting coordinator.

PLAYING CAREER
Harris, a native of Gary, Ind.,  was a standout at Tolleston High School, before  signing a football scholarship at Texas Western, which is now the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP).  He played there for two years before going to the Army. After the Army, where Harris was stationed at Redstone Arsenal, he played basketball for a year at Calhoun Community College for legendary coach Fred Shuttlesworth. After that, Harris signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville, where he played for legendary coach Kayo Willis for one season.

FAMILY
Harris is the proud father of three children, sons Anthony Titus and Rob Harris, and a daughter, Kris White.
