ABRAMS, LANGHAM NAMED COACH AND ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR, ADAMS, KEYS, AND BELL EARN ALL-HBCUAC HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – Oakwood University was one of the big winners Sunday as the HBCU Athletic Conference announced its annual award recipients.
 
Oakwood women's basketball coach Ronnie Abrams was named HBCUAC Coach of the Year, while his assistant Maya Langham was named Assistant Coach of the Year after guiding the Ambassadors to their first-ever regular season conference title.
 
Oakwood won the HBCUAC East Division title, finishing 16-8 overall and 10-2 in league play. The Ambassadors, who ended the season winning 11 of their last 14 games, will play the Wilberforce/Tougaloo winner Thursday at 4 p.m. in the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCUAC Basketball Championship inside Birthright Hall at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.
 
The Ambassadors swept Tougaloo and Wilberforce during the regular season.
 
Trenisha Adams, Oakwood's starting point guard, was named to the All-HBCUAC first-team, while sophomore center Saniya Keys was named to the second team.
 
Adams averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game for the Ambassadors. She led the league in made 3-pointers with 82 and shot a league-best 45.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Keys, the reigning Player of the Year, averaged 13.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
 
On the men's side, Oakwood senior forward Jordan Bell earned first-team All-HBCUAC honors.
 
Bell averaged 17 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Ambassadors.
 
Oakwood (9-17), the No. 6 seed in the East, will take on Wiley (1-20), the No. 7 seed in the West, Tuesday at 5 p.m. The winner will play Dillard University Wednesday at 8 p.m.
