KEYS, ADAMS SHINE FOR OAKWOOD DESPITE LATE LOSS TO WILBERFORCE

WILBERFORCE, OH. – Saniya Keys and Trenisha Adams combined for 45 points, but it wasn't enough Thursday night as Oakwood University fell 77-72 to Wilberforce University in an important HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Gaston F. Lewis Arena.

The Ambassadors led 36-33 at intermission and 55-54 heading into the fourth quarter, before being outscored 23-17 the rest of the way.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 8-11 overall and 6-7 in league play. Wilberforce improved to 8-12 and 5-8.

Madison McDonald's jumper with 90 seconds left in the game gave the Ambassadors a 72-70 advantage, but the Bulldogs closed the game on a 7-0 run to take the victory.

Down 75-72, Oakwood had two chances to tie the game, but couldn't take advantage.

Adams missed a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining and missed another one with 15 seconds left that could have tied it.

Makyla Tucker's jumper with five seconds left sealed the victory for Wilberforce.

Keys finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead Oakwood. She was 12-of-16 from the field with one block.

Adams scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds, three assists and a block.

Keys and Adams were a combined 18-of-27 from the field, while the rest of the team was just 9-of-44.

The Ambassadors shot 38 percent (27-of-71) from the field, including 28 percent (7-of-25) from 3-point range, and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the free throw line.

Oakwood hurt itself with 25 turnovers. The Bulldogs outscored the Ambassadors 28-18 in points off turnovers.

Laniya Early led five Wilberforce players in double figures with 18 points. Chaplin and Dreann Pryce had 16 each, while Jada Hairston and Tucker finished with 15 and 10, respectively.

The Bulldogs shot 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field, including 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 40 percent (10-of-25) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood hosts Talladega College Saturday night. Tipoff is 6:30.
