Oakwood University suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night as West Alabama came to town and left with a 3-0 victory at Ashby Auditorium.
The Tigers downed the Ambassadors 25-13, 25-17 and 25-18.
After getting hammered in the first game, Oakwood battled back and was more competitive in the last two games before falling to 2-1 on the season. West Alabama improved to 1-4.
Newcomer
Anna Jones (Attalla, AL) led the Ambassadors with three kills.
Dorian Birch (Ooltewah, TN) and
Mona Okello (Overland Park, KS) finished with two apiece.
Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) had a team-high seven digs, while
Rheanna Thomas (Seattle, WA) and Okello had four each. Bucknor also led Oakwood with six assists.
Chyna Dixon led the Tigers with nine kills. Ally Craig had a game-high 10 digs, while Berfin Mertcan had a game-high 23 assists.
Oakwood opens Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play this weekend.
The Ambassadors visit Dillard University Saturday before taking on Southern University of New Orleans Sunday.
