OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL WILL TRY TO MOVE TO 3-0 AS WEST ALABAMA COMES TO TOWN TONIGHT

Oakwood University volleyball, off to its best start ever, will try to move to 3-0 tonight when the University of West Alabama invades Ashby Auditorium. First serve is set for 6.

The Ambassadors are 2-0 after opening the season with back-to-back wins over Stillman College. Meanwhile, the Tigers are in search of their first win of the season after going 0-4 over the weekend at the Midwestern State (TX) Invitational. This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Oakwood coach Takhera Sanders knows her team is in for a great challenge tonight from its NCAA II opponent.

"West Alabama will be one of the toughest teams we'll play all year," Sanders said. "We know what we're up against. We've just to play our game, stay poised and focused."

Freshmen Trinity Williams (Midlothian, TX) and Shaniya Brown (Dallas, TX) have been huge for Oakwood early on.

Williams leads the Ambassadors with 15 kills, while Dorian Birch (Ooltewah, TN) and newcomer Anna Jones (Attalla, AL) have 13 and 12, respectively.

Brown has a team-high 36 digs. Sophomore Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) leads the team with 57 assists and is second with 20 digs.

Ally Craig leads West Alabama with 29 kills, while Quiara Dunson has a team-high 39 digs. Berfin Mertcan leads the team with 81 assists.
