OAKWOOD BLANKED BY MUW DESPITE SOLID FIRST HALF

COLUMBUS, Miss – Oakwood University was even with the Mississippi University for Women after the first half Friday afternoon, but the Owls scored three goals during a six-minute stretch early in the second half and went on to beat the Ambassadors 7-0 at the Roger Short Soccer Complex.

The game was tied 0-0 after the first 45 minutes, but MUW got it going offensively in the second half and went on to notch its first win of the season. Meanwhile, Oakwood dropped its first game of the season after tying Fisk University a week ago.

"We played well the first half, but then we got tired," Oakwood coach Frank Davies said. "Our numbers are still low and our lack of depth came into play in the second half."

The Owls improved to 1-4-1 with the win. The Ambassadors fell to 0-1-1.

Oakwood goalkeeper Gaston Prophete (Atlanta, GA) had five saves on the day.

MUW outshot Oakwood 19-5, including 12-0 in the second half.

Oakwood visits Tougaloo College Sunday afternoon.
