OAKWOOD SWEEPS RUST COLLEGE TO END ON A HIGH NOTE

 
 
HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Oakwood University ended its first softball season in more than a decade by sweeping Rust College recently in a doubleheader, beating the Bearcats 11-0 and 10-0.

The Ambassadors finished the season 6-14. Oakwood opened the season 0-10, but won six of its last 10 games, including winning four straight to finish the year.

First Game
Sydney Arnett (Andalusia, AL) pitched a one-hit shutout to pick up the win. She allowed no runs on one hit in five innings. Arnett walked one and struck out 11.

The Ambassadors led 3-0 after two innings, but scored eight runs in the third inning to break it open.

Mattie Earl (Holly Pond, AL) had a three-run triple to make it 7-0 and after she scored on an error to make it 8-0, Kaley Fuller (Trussville, AL) had a two-run double to make it 10-0.

Earl was 1-for-4, scored a run and had three RBI. Fuller was 1-for-1 with two RBI and scored three runs. Jana Morrow (Moody, AL) had one hit, one RBI and scored two runs, while Madison Todd (Florence, AL) had a hit, an RBI and scored a run. EmmaRay Spitzer (Holly Pond, AL) didn't get a hit, but scored a run and had two RBI.

Second Game
Arnett was dominant in the circle again, tossing another one-hit shutout. She didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.

Arnett was also 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored a run.

Lessie Allison (Blountsville, AL) was 1-for-2 and scored three runs, while Fuller was 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored three runs. Todd was 0-for-2, but had three RBI.

Oakwood scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third and never looked back.
