OAKWOOD TAKES ON BETHEL TODAY IN FREED-HARDEMAN CLASSIC

 HENDERSON, Tenn. – Two days after a heart-breaking loss to Shorter University, Oakwood University will take on Bethel University today in the Freed-Hardeman Classic at the Brewer Sports Center.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

The Wildcats (4-2), ranked 20th in the latest NAIA poll, have won four straight games after opening the season with back-to-back losses. Bethel downed Fisk University 70-46 to start the streak and also has a notable win over Faulkner University, which was ranked last season in the NAIA poll.

The Ambassadors (2-3) let a 23-point lead slip away against the Hawks in their latest outing.

Oakwood has four players averaging in double figures.

Leading the way is RB Mitchell (Detroit, MI) and Nekaya Williams (Atlanta, GA), who are both averaging 13 points per game. Nariah Alexander (Southaven, MS) is averaging 11 points, while Trenisha Adams (Rome, GA) is averaging 10 per game. Alexander is averaging 10 rebounds per game, while Williams and Adams are averaging 6.7 and 5.3, respectively.

Bethel counters with Madison Hart and Kylie Reynolds, who are averaging 16.2 and 13.2 points, respectively.

Oakwood will take on No. 20 Freed-Hardeman Saturday night at 6:30.

The Lions have won five straight games since a season-opening loss to Philander Smith in the Bethel Classic. Kaylee Odum is averaging a team-high 10.1 points for Freed-Hardeman, while three other players are averaging nine points per game.

Freed-Hardeman was slated to play Oakland City today at 4.
