After outlasting Rust College Wednesday night in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference road victory, Oakwood University will try to run its winning streak to two in a row when Dillard University invades Ashby Auditorium Friday at 1 p.m.
The Bleu Devils, the defending GCAC regular season champions, enter the game 12-7 overall and 7-1 in league play. Dillard is currently on a two-game losing streak, having lost its first conference game to Talladega College last Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Ambassadors snapped their three-game losing streak with a hard fought 3-2 win at Rust College Wednesday night. Oakwood improved to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in league play with the victory.
Oakwood fell at Dillard almost a month ago in New Orleans, 15-25, 6-25 and 18-25.
Trinity Williams (Midlothian, TX),
Shaniya Brown (Dallas, TX) and
Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) have been Oakwood's leaders throughout the season.
Williams has a team-high 83 kills, while Brown leads the team with 123 digs. Bucknor has a team-high 190 assists.
Dillard is led by Cadence Thomas, Chasry Lum-King and Taylor Hurst.
Thomas has 143 kills, while Lum-King had 271 digs. Hurst had a team-high 220 assists. Hurst was a first-team All-GCAC selection a year ago, while Lum-King was a second-team selection.
This is a huge weekend for Oakwood. After Friday's game, the Ambassadors host Southern University of New Orleans Sunday in a doubleheader. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
