OAKWOOD VOLLEYBALL VISITS PHILANDER SMITH, WILEY COLLEGE IN BIG GCAC WEEKEND

Oakwood University volleyball, playing as well as it has all season, will try to continue its winning ways this weekend in a pair of big Gulf Coast Athletic Conference matches.

The Ambassadors (6-9, 4-6) will visit Philander Smith (7-10, 4-4) Saturday night at 7 in Little Rock, Ark., before taking on Wiley College (3-14, 3-7) Sunday afternoon at 1 in Marshall, Texas.

Currently, Philander Smith is fourth in the conference, followed by Oakwood, Rust College and Wiley College. All nine teams will participate in the GCAC Championship next month in Bossier City, La.

"This is a great opportunity for us to continue to build momentum as we get ready for the tournament," Oakwood coach Takhera Sanders said. "We're in a good place mentally and physically. We've just got to keep playing."

Oakwood has won three of its last four games after losing eight of nine. After this road trip, the Ambassadors have three of their last five games at home.

Philander Smith hosts Fisk University on Friday before taking on Oakwood Saturday. Philander Smith swept Oakwood 3-0 in Huntsville back on Sept. 17.

Trinity Williams (Midlothian, TX) leads Oakwood with 104 kills. Shaniya Brown (Dallas, TX) has a team-high 158 digs, while Cameryn Bucknor (Huntsville, AL) leads the team with 260 assists.

Zarea Winn leads Philander Smith with 164 kills and 164 digs. Essence Wren has a team-high 443 assists.

Wiley College's Shyla Starks leads the team with 92 kills. Nadia Cortez has a team-high 182 digs, while LeAndria Johnson has a team-high 220 assists.
