Denaj'za Jackson scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as Talladega College swept the season series from Oakwood University with a 74-63 victory in a women's basketball game at the Hawkins Student Activity Center in Talladega.
The Lady Ambassadors fell to 0-5 with the loss, while the Lady Tornadoes improved to 3-0.
Oakwood trailed 43-31 at halftime and 56-49 entering the fourth quarter, but continued to chip away at the deficit.
Jackson's layup with 6:17 to play pulled the Lady Ambassadors within 58-57. Later, after Talladega extended its lead, Jackson spearheaded an Oakwood run and her jumper at the 2:49 mark got Oakwood within 63-61.
Hannah Cohn hit two free throws with 2:07 left to pull the Lady Ambassadors within 65-63, but Talladega closed the game on a 9-0 run to seal the 11-point victory.
Cohn backed Jackson with 12 points and six rebounds for Oakwood, while Nekaya Williams finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Ambassadors shot 38 percent (24-of-63) from the field, 20 percent (5-of-25) from 3-point range and 52 percent (10-of-19) from the free throw line. They also committed 19 turnovers.
Amayla Sharif led four Talladega players in double figures with 16 points and six rebounds.
Oakwood hosts the University of La Verne  (CA) Thursday night.
